Discover the delectable taste of French cuisine with our high-quality dried French morels or morels. Morels, also known as "the diamond of the kitchen", are loved by foodies around the world and offer a unique culinary experience.
The flavour of morels is often described as nutty and complex. Their unique honeycomb structure ensures that they absorb moisture and flavour well during cooking. This makes them a popular and sought-after mushroom in gastronomy.
What makes our dried morels so special?
It is important to know the origin of morels. The French origin is a guarantee of quality and authenticity. Our morels are harvested by Lex in the beautiful forests of the 'Montagne Noire', where they grow in pure, untouched natural environments. As a result, they are rich in flavour and have a distinctive texture that takes your dishes to the next level.
The drying process our morels undergo retains their delicious aroma and also makes them last longer. As a result, you can enjoy this culinary gem all year round, even when they are not in season.
Soaking dried morels
When tasting dried morels, it is important to first soak them in warm water to regain their original shape and flavour. This process usually takes about 20 minutes, but can vary depending on the size of the morels. The resulting soaking water can also be used as a flavourful marinade or base for sauces and soups.
How to prepare morels?
- Short cooking time: Morels are quite delicate and should not be cooked too long, otherwise they can become tough. However, they need to be fully cooked to be safe to eat. Therefore, cook them in boiling water for about 4-5 minutes before incorporating them into dishes.
- Easy preparation: Morels naturally have an intense flavour, so keep the preparation simple to preserve their unique flavour profile. Saute them with a little butter or olive oil and add some garlic, salt and pepper.
- Combine with lighter ingredients: Morels go well with lighter ingredients such as chicken, fish and eggs. Combine them with fried chicken breast, grilled salmon or scrambled eggs for a delicious meal.
- Use as seasoning: Morels can also be used as seasoning in sauces or risotto. Add them to dishes in small quantities to enhance their earthy and nutty flavour.
French morel dried is best stored in a glass canister, or kept vacuum-packed in plastic bags. Above all, keep it dry and dark, that way the flavour is best preserved.
